Premier Universal Marina and Boatyard

The most beautiful and peaceful marina surrounded by trees water bird song and boats. The Universal team are the most helpful we've come across... nothing is too much trouble! Special mention to Will!! Our first rally with 4 boats.. hope to bring more next time!! We certainly loved the Riverside Social...Thank you all so very much!! Sacha and friends! X

Approaching the marina in a lively force 5, I was unable to raise the marine office on the VHF. Resorting to my mobile phone the reason became clear, it was Sunday afternoon amateur hour. Despite having booked in advance, berthing instructions were extremely hesitant, requiring a lengthy pause before being able to advise on which side to set the ropes. The numbering on the pontoons was very difficult to read even close to but fortunately a weekday harbormaster was nearby and able to provide advice and assistance. Lunch at 2:00 p.m. turned out to be impossible because the marina restaurant, now called The Riverside Social, was booked out. It was also one of those unwelcoming places which required pre-booked sittings that had to be vacated after 90 minutes if 2 people were dining. On the plus side, a 15 minute walk on the river side foot path, in the upstream direction, gets you to The Old Ship pub where the food is good, the portions generous and there is no 90 minute restriction.

Beautiful views and walk. lovely path to walk along with dogs . Friendly area , didnt use facilities however a nice looking cafe and ice cream shop although closed as off peak/covid i assume. Parking limited spaces and a bit tight to get in but as expected for a free carpark. I think there is more parking further towards marina if happy to pay for parking .

We visited the Marina whilst on a trail walk courtesy of the Alltrails app, the Hamble Ramble alltrail trail walk, is a lovely 10km nature and riverside walk around the marina. For the most part, the walk is relaxed, and can be done on a bicycle, however, the trail is at times very narrow and at a point crosses the marina via ferry. For this reason, I don't advise mommies with prams or people who need wheelchair access, the ferry is accessible via wheelchair. The walk is ok for children able to latch on to a parents hand during the stretch on the road, and on the short ferry ride. We reversed the walk, opting to start, cross the bridge over the river, walking clockwise around the marina with the boats on our right. A short walk in, you'll find a lovely little ice-cream and coffee takeaway, where politeness will get you access to the toilets. Somewhere to either have a small breakfast, or a tea with a bite to eat. Pitstop. The walk commences from there further down the stretch around the marina until. You reach the ferry. Photos supplied. Then it's a stretch through the urbs and nature, eventually onto the high street and towards the parking area. The marina is very beautiful.
